2012 Kids Triple Crown Series
“Take a great deal of exercise on foot for health is the first requisite after morality” –Thomas Jefferson
There are four area not-for-profit races in the Kids Triple Crown series, but participants only need to complete three to qualify for the Triple Crown medal.
- Saturday, March 31 — Charlottesville Ten Miler hosted by the CTC and featuring a half mile kid’s run.
- Saturday, April 21 — The Run For Autism hosted by The Virginia Institute of Autism on Westwood Road. Featuring a quarter mile race on the CHS track or a full 5K on the road.
- Sunday, April 29 — The Family Fitness Runs hosted by The Charlottesville Day School at Panorama Farms in Earlysville. Featuring a 100 yard dash and half mile run on grass.
- Saturday, May 26 — The Discovery Dash for Kids hosted by The Virginia Discovery Museum at Monticello High School’s track. Featuring races from 100 meters up to the mile with several family oriented relays on the track.
- All four of the events are organized by volunteers and all of the proceeds from the races will be donated to area not-for-profit causes (close to $70,000 in 2009).
- To qualify for the prestigious Kids Triple Crown medal, participants must be 3-12 years old and must finish at least three of the four separate races.
- Participants must register for all four races separately.
- Sportsmanship rules apply at all of the events…poor sportsmanship could lead to disqualification.
- Any individual who meets the above qualifications will be presented with The Kids Triple Crown Medal at a special ceremony in June (date and location will be announced in late May).
