Ragged Mountain gait analysis is a one of a kind customer experience.

For over 30 years, long before the term became a household buzz word, we were analyzing our shoe patron’s “gaits”. This process of watching the dynamics that occur from foot strike through push off is how we determine which shoes to recommend to each individual.

At Ragged Mountain, we first watch you walk, then run (if you are a runner) in your old shoes (this is one of the reasons why we highly recommend you bringing your old shoes with you to Ragged Mountain). We then proceed to the barefoot gait analysis, which is a much more refined and detailed approach to observing the dynamics of your foot mechanics. We look for clues in the wear of your old shoes and their inserts before recommending new ones to you.

This whole process (from questions and answers about your exercise/injury history all the way to your actual new shoe purchase) usually takes anywhere from 20-45 minutes. Obviously, if you are totally satisfied with your old shoes and simply want a new pair of the same kind, we wouldn’t need to run you through this process and, therefore, your purchase will be much faster!
