Everything you need to know about The Area’s Most Popular not-for profit Races
When we opened the doors to Ragged Mountain back in 1982 there were only five footraces in the local running scene: The Charlottesville Ten Miler (directed by James and Karen Beaver), The Black Cat 8 Miler (directed by J.R. Ransone), The Batesville 10K (directed by Hamp Carruth), The Sun Run Five Miler (directed by Donal and Elena Day) and The Heart Run 5K. Today that number has ballooned to over 100, including many kids races, triathlons and, our largest race in town, an ALL-women’s run!
At Ragged Mountain we have created, initiated, organized and directed many of these events (over 550 at last count) and in turn, thanks to the support of the tens of thousands of participants and countless CTC volunteers, these events have helped to raise over three million dollars for a variety of worthy local non-profit causes over the years. Today, Ragged Mountain serves as the official race headquarters for fifty of these local annual events.
